Training makes the difference between a wild uncontrollable animal and a lovable manageable house pet. Effective training can be given to a dog from the age of eight weeks. It is best for the owner and dog to start training before bad habits become deeply ingrained.
Smitty's Dog Training will guarantee you that owning a dog can be a joy and a delight rather than a constant hassle and frustration to your patience, your home, it's contents, or to visitors. Smitty has developed this unique "fast, effective, and fair" method during 30 years of experience and research as a dog trainer who loves dogs, starting with college study (Stony Brook) of animal psychology. Our method utilizes praise as a reward and a jerk on a chain collar for corrections. Corrections are carefully tailored to your dog's temperament and strength.
We will train your dog for as long as it takes until the dog responds to all of the commands. We will train any dog of any breed, age, temperament or size: From a Chihuahua to a Great Dane.
We specialize in the stubborn, hard to train problem dog - those that are not housebroken, are overly destructive, or those that have developed the unruly habits of jumping, biting or pulling on a leash, etc.
Our training will adapt your dog to your life style and not the other way around. OBEDIENCE TRAINING PROGRAM
Private Lessons: BOTH Behavior AND Obedience:
We never "bribe" a dog using food rewards. The result is that our method will control your dog even when the dog isn't hungry, and even when he/she is distracted and excited! (e.g.: you just came home or the dog sees another dog running toward him/her)
On your first lesson, Smitty reviews all procedures and answers all your questions about the training system, and any other aspect of animal/pet care such as feeding, grooming, veterinary care and flea/tick/worm control. We explain our entire system of Problem Correction/Behavior Modification. You will also receive our printed manual that provides instructions on all the Obedience and Behavior Problem solving procedures. During this lesson/consultation, we will demonstrate our unique, humane, fast technique of training. From the very first lesson you will be amazed at the speed at which our method produces results!
On subsequent lessons with Smitty your dog is humanely and patiently conditioned to obey all the commands by the Praise/Correction method with you watching. You and your family will then be taught the system and will practice with Smitty instructing you, until you know how to give the commands and your dog responds effectively to your commands. Everyone in the family who would like to participate may learn the system. The more the merrier!

OBEDIENCE COMMANDS:
Your dog will obey the following commands given by you once without your having to nag, beg, bribe, yell, or threaten him/her. Your dog will obey them even with such tempting distractions such as a dog, cat or child playing nearby, owner returning from being out all day, or a friend the dog loves arriving for a visit.
HEEL Your dog will walk smartly at your left side, under distraction,
without pulling.
SIT Your dog will sit down on command immediately even when distracted.
COME Your dog will come to you when you call him, under distraction,
from a distance.
DOWN Your dog will lie down on your single command, even when distracted.
STAY Your dog will stay in either the "down" or the "sit" position under distraction, and will remain there until released by you with the "OK" command.
Any other commands you would like your dog to learn can also be taught such as "go to your place & lie down".
